The following Requirements must be adhered to when planning for and installing a Takagi tankless water heater. Failure to do so could result in improper operation, shortened unit life, voiding the warranty and/ or a compromise in safety. Installation requirements for each model can be found on Installation Manual. The following will provide general guidelines.
- 1. Follow all local codes, or in the absence of local codes, follow the most recent edition of the National Fuel Gas Code: ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 in the USA or CAN/CSA B149.1 Natural Gas, Propane Installation Code in Canada.
-
- 2. All gas water heaters require careful and correct installation to ensure safe and efficient operation. Read the “Safety Guidelines” Section in the Installation Manual.
-
- 3. The manifold gas pressure is preset at the factory. It is computer controlled and should not need adjustment.
-
- 4. Maintain proper space for servicing. Install the unit so that it can be connected or removed easily. Refer to the "Clearances" Section in the Installation Manual for proper clearances.
-
- 5. The water heater must be installed in a location where the proper amount of combustible air will be available to it at all times without obstructions.
-
- 6. The electrical connection requires a means of disconnection, to terminate power to the water heater for servicing and safety purposes. All models require 120 V AC 60 Hz and draw less than 2 Amps.
-
- 7. Do not install the unit where the exhaust vent is pointing into any opening in a building or where the noise may disturb your neighbors. Make sure the vent termination meets the required distance by local code from any doorway or opening to prevent exhaust from entering a building.
-
- 8. Particles from flour, aerosols, and other contaminants may clog the air vent, build up and reduce the functions of the rotating fan, cause improper burning of the gas, or cause damage to the water heater. Regularly ensure that the area around the unit is dust- or debris-free. Regular maintenance is recommended for these types of environment.
-
- 9. All units are specific to Indoor or Outdoor installation except for T-M32 and T-M50 Series. Make sure to install correct model type for each installation location. The Outdoor model shall be wall-mounted or mounted on a stand.
-
- 10. Refer to the Installation Manual for approved vent material, diameter, and maximum run lengths.
-
- 11. Refer to the gas line piping chart in the Installation Manual to ensure sufficient gas supply for the application.
-
- 12. Commercial models are capable to Easy-Link up to 4 units. Some commercial units are capable of Multi-Link up to 20 units. Residential models are standalone units.
-
- 13. Pressure Relief Valve: A “pressure only” relief valve must be installed according to national/state/local codes. A temperature & pressure relief valve is not required unless required by applicable codes.
